Yacht Crew Jobs and Roles

A good crew can be a very useful thing to have on one’s hand when on a water holiday. When on a yacht it is good to be sure that all of the vital members of a yacht crew are present and are ready to take care of a variety of different things. There are a number of yacht crew jobs and roles to be aware of here. First there is the captain, who can also be referred to as the skipper. This person works for the yacht crew as the one who works on all of the navigational duties with regards to getting the ship to move from one place to another. In order to get into this level of control a person will have had to be a first mate at some point in the past and have a good amount of experience in handling a boat in order to get to this ranking. The first mate will be the assistant to the yacht captain. A first mate will check on all safety standards and protocols to make sure that a yacht is working properly and securely. In the event that the captain has become unable to take control of the yacht the first mate will be the one who is going to be responsible for doing so. The engineer is the next of the yacht crew jobs. The role of the engineer is that the person will work to maintain all of the mechanics of the ship. The engineer will have to check on the engine and plumbing along with electrical factors surrounding the ship. Deckhands, or ship mates, are people who essentially work as custodians. They work to clean up the ship and help with maintaining its unique appearance. Deckhands can also work as assistants to passengers on the yacht. The next of the yacht crew jobs and roles is the steward. This person will work in customer service by serving people on the yacht with various things. For instance, the steward can serve drinks and meals as well as handle all materials that guests bring onto the yacht with them. A separate steward, who is known as the laundry steward, will take care of the laundry. This includes cleaning, drying and delivering clothes to all crew members and guests. This is a role that is more likely to be found on a larger yacht. The safety officer is one of the most important jobs on the ship in that the safety officer will look to see that all safety materials on a ship are working properly. The officer will also have to inform passengers about safety standards on the ship. The last of the yacht crew jobs and roles is that of the chef. This is the person who is responsible for cooking meals. The chef will also be sure that all materials for the ship with regards to food are bought and prepared properly so that everyone can enjoy meals that will be served on the ship.
