Greece Yacht Charter and Sailing Holidays Guide for Vacations

Greece is an exciting place to go for a yacht charter or sailing holiday. This guide for vacations in the area offers information on all sorts of factors regarding where a charter holiday can take people to along with some useful things with regards to what ships can be used and what to expect when in Greece. A thrilling part of Greece is that there are thousands of different islands all over the area to explore through a yacht or sailing charter. It is estimated that there are about three thousand different islands in Greece and that they take up about twenty percent of the entire land mass of the country. Thanks to this there are all sorts of impressive and uninhabited beaches and lands to check out around Greece. There are many island groups to visit around Greece. For instance, the Cyclades feature a variety of beautiful island rocks and bays along with a number of areas where a boat can be anchored at. The Dodecanese islands near Rhodes are also enjoyable in that they are calm and feature many archaeological areas. The Ionian islands are also popular in that they feature hundreds of miles of coastlines for people to relax on. The weather in Greece is also noted for being very enjoyable for a yacht charter or sailing holiday. It is sunny on most days of the year. This can work to provide a good amount of warmth to the area throughout the year. Be aware though that in many cases temperatures can get to be forty degrees Celsius or 104 Fahrenheit at some times during the summer. Also, the water can get to temperatures that are close to thirty Celsius. Charter ships can depart from a variety of different ports around Greece. There are ports in the main city of Athens as well as ports around Rhodes, Volos, Corfu and Samos. All of these ports can handle a variety of different yachts and sailboats. Most charters will offer trips that are a full week in length. This comes from how there are so many different things to explore when on a yacht charter in Greece. With this in mind there are many larger types of boats that can be used in Greece for a sailing holiday. Traditional types of sailing yachts can be used with or without a crew while a larger crewed motor sailor yacht can work. This is a larger type of boat that features a massive hull and sails and can fit up to forty people in many cases. Flotillas have become popular as well. These are groups of ships that are similar to one another that can travel together along Greece. Flotillas have been used around Greece for years and are offered by a variety of charters in the area. Finally it helps to know that charters are generally going to be busier in the summer, particularly in July, than in other times of the year. The winter season will be less busy but the temperatures are relatively mild and not too intense.
