British Virgin Islands (BVI) Yacht Charter and Sailing Holidays Guide for Vacations

There are a number of yacht charters and sailing holidays or vacations held every year around the British Virgin Islands. This guide for vacations should be considered when looking around for yacht or sailing holidays in that the spaces around the BVI and the ships that can be used in the area can vary. The BVI area is one that is due east of Puerto Rico and is to the northeast of the United States Virgin Islands. There are more than sixty different islands around the BVI area with a number of cays and islets around as well. These areas offer a number of different reef areas with a variety of different types of underwater life around here. Marinas for all boats can be found throughout the BVI. A majority of them are on the Tortola Island, which features Mount Sage and the capitol city of Road Town, and the Virgin Gorda Island. These areas are ones that feature plenty of docks where people can dock their ships for a period of time and enjoy things on the land of a certain area. Provisioning areas that will work to help with restocking what a ship is working with in terms of its materials can be found on these islands as well. A popular part of sailing holidays around here is that a number of major islands around the BVI offer anchorage support where people can ground their ships near islands with an anchor. These include many of the smaller islands in the southern area including Pelican Island, Peter Island and Cooper Island. At one of these places a ship can be stopped to where people can relax on an island or enjoy water activities around the area. Be aware though that there are some areas that are fully protected to where people can only anchor their ships during the daytime. A number of different types of boats can be used on a yacht or sailing charter. These range from smaller sailboats that work with only one hull to larger yachts that work with motors. Catamarans, including power catamarans that work with engines, can also be found from many charters that serve the BVI area. Smaller boats are generally used by most of these charters due to how tight the islands and other bodies of land around the BVI area. Therefore it is safe to assume that a good holiday out here will be one that can work with a party of four to eight people on a single charter. Most of the yachts and sailboats from different charters around the BVI are bareboat charters. This means that all boats that are taken out on a charter in the area will be ones that work with no crew members and will essentially be self-hire boats. Some boats do have crews but these will generally be smaller ones that are limited primarily to a captain or a cook. Many charters will offer instructions on how to pilot boats and how to work with different materials on these boats though.
